Team Description
The Finance & Accounting team provides the financial visibility, rigor, and partnership needed for practice-level performance. We do more than record transactions, we partner with practice leaders and AD operators to understand what is happening in the business, why it is happening, and what to do next. This role is a core part of AD’s service offering to supported practices, translating accounting into actionable operational and financial decisions.
Position Overview
The Senior Accounting Analyst is responsible for managing all aspects of a portfolio of dental practices from accounting execution to practice-level financial insights and decision support. You will own the financial “story” of your practices: ensuring accurate accounting, producing clear performance reporting, identifying trends and risks, and partnering with operations and practice leadership on initiatives that improve profitability, cash flow, and scalability.
This role blends accounting fundamentals (close, reconciliations, accuracy) with finance/business partnering (analysis, recommendations, performance management). The ideal candidate is organized, analytically strong, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
What You Will Own
- Own month-end close and balance sheet integrity for a portfolio of practices.
- Lead monthly financial reviews with doctors and practice leaders; drive narrative and recommendations.
- Own KPI reporting, driver-based variance analysis, and performance insights
- Standardize templates, controls, and reporting routines across practices.
Core Responsibilities
Portfolio Close Ownership
- Lead monthly close activities for assigned practices including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement integrity.
- Maintain clean balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules (cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, accruals, vendor liabilities, and other key accounts).
- Ensure expenses and revenue are accurately classified and consistently reported across practices, including normalization of one-time items and adherence to reporting standards.
- Partner with centralized functions (Operations, RCM, AP, payroll, shared services) to resolve coding, timing, vendor, and documentation issues quickly to keep close on track.
Practice-Facing Financial Reviews
- Produce and deliver monthly financial packages (P&L, variance analysis, KPI scorecard) with a clear narrative: what happened, why it happened, and what we recommend.
- Present results to practice staff and partner doctors regularly; align on actions, and follow up on outcomes.
- Provide decision support through credible analysis and recommendations; influence change through clarity and partnership.
Dental Unit Economics and KPI Ownership
- Monitor and diagnose key practice drivers, including:
- Production vs. collections trends, adjustments, and net collection rate
- AR aging, collection cycle, and leakage points
- Provider and hygiene productivity, capacity utilization, and scheduling effectiveness
- Labor mix and labor percentage controls
- Supplies and lab spend controls (pricing, usage variance, vendor compliance)
- Marketing performance and ROI where applicable
- Overhead discipline and fixed-cost leverage (rent/occupancy)
- Build driver-based variance explanations and identify root causes rather than generic budget-to-actual commentary.
Performance Improvement and Standardization Across Practices
- Identify performance opportunities and support implementation with operations and practice leadership (vendor optimization, staffing models, revenue cycle improvements, recurring expense controls).
- Develop and scale repeatable playbooks, templates, and KPI definitions to drive consistency across the portfolio.
- Support onboarding and integration of new practices into AD’s close cadence, policies, and reporting standards as needed.
Controls, Audit, and Stakeholder Support
- Maintain documentation and schedules to support audits, lender reporting, and other internal or external requests.
- Strengthen internal controls in a multi-location environment by proactively flagging risks and recommending solutions.
What Success Looks Like (First 90–180 Days)
- Practice leaders understand performance because reporting is clear, consistent, and action-oriented.
- You surface meaningful improvement opportunities (cost, collections, staffing, vendor spend) and help drive follow-through.
- You improve consistency across practices by standardizing templates, definitions, and routines.
- Month-end close is executed on a disciplined close calendar with clean reconciliations and minimal rework
